Lloyd, a former Essendon captain and now a proven media commentator with Channel Nine and 3AW, has allegedly made claims that the Lions are an unhappy club.
In a story on the AFL website, Lloyd has said that the Lions’ 131-point loss to Hawthorn in their opening match of the NAB Challenge “might not be a one off”.
“I think they’re in for a world of pain this year. I’m not sure that they’re happy,” Lloyd said in an interview on 3AW on Wednesday.
“New coach, a player exodus - I’m not sure that everything is that happy up there in Brisbane. I think they’re in for a tough year.”
New head of coaching and development at the Lions, former Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab, hit back at Lloyd when asked about the claims from the former Bomber.
“I haven’t seen Matty in Brisbane lately, so how would he know?” Schwab said.
“Matty was a great player, he’s paid for his opinions and often opinions aren’t based on facts.
“I don’t think any person outside of Brisbane can talk about culture, because they don’t know, they’re not here.”
Lions fans, we want to know your thoughts. What do you think of the comments? Do you agree with Lloyd’s comments? Are you happy with Peter Schwab’s response to Lloyd’s claims?
