The Lions chalked up their first win in Victoria and their first pair of back-to-back wins of the season with a scrappy 13.9.87 to 14.11.95 win over the Western Bulldogs at Etihad last night.
Dayne Zorko and Rohan Bewick orchestrated some great runs of play and individual brilliance to pave the way for this Brisbane win.
It was, however, a slow start for the Lions. The Dogs came sprinting out of the blocks piling on some quick majors before Brisbane woke up. The Lions looked a little sluggish but were still able to keep up with the Dogs, going in to the first quarter just a goal behind.
Then the Lions came out swinging blowing the Dogs away heaping on 7 majors to the Dogs 2. There was enthusiasm, skill and some great runs of play that set the foundation for the lead the Lions would need to win this match.
The third quarter was another close affair but the real business came out in the final stanza. The Dogs applied the blow torch to the Lions bellies through some crippling pressure. The Dogs were able to cause a couple of impressive turnovers. You even got the feeling that if the Dogs could have been able to kick straight that the game was theirs.
In the end the Lions may have been a bit lucky to walk away with the win but who cares, a win is still a win and itís lifted us from the absolute bottom of the ladder. Finally.
What were the positives you saw from this match for the Lions?
